Kids Golf World Championship at Pulai Springs Resort in December

The second edition of the Kids Golf World Championship will be played at the Pulai Springs Resort and Palm Resort Golf & Country Club in Johor this December 2-6.

Over 600 juniors aged five to 18 representing 27 are expected to take part in the tournament, which is being held in Malaysia for the second consecutive year following the first edition in Kuala Lumpur last December. The Kids Golf World Championship is the international version of the prestigious US Kids Golf World Championship, an offshoot of the US Kids Golf Foundation which was established in 2001.

Played at Pulai Springs’ Pulai Course and Palm Resort’s Cempaka and Melati courses, the 2014 Kids Golf World Championship will feature eight categories for boys (7 years and below, 8 years, 9 years, 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, 13-14 years and 15-18 years) and seven categories for girls (8 years and below, 9 years, 10 years, 11 years, 12 years, 13-14 years and 15-18 years). As in last year’s event, the last day of the tournament will see a Best of Malaysia team take on a Rest of the World selection in a Ryder Cup-style match.

Managed by Concept Collaboration Sdn Bhd, the Kids Golf World Championship is presented by US Kids Golf in partnership with Royal Sporting House (Malaysia). The tournament is sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association and supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau which is an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Promising Malaysian junior Siti Zulaikhaa Shaari competed in last year’s event and qualified for the 2013 US Kids Golf European Golf Championship, which was played in May at the Gullane Golf Club in Scotland. The 14-year-old carded rounds of 73, 73 and 75 to finish second in the Girls’ 13 to 14 age category.

“It was a great experience and I really learnt a lot as it was my first time playing on a links course,” said Siti, whose ambition is to turn professional and qualify for the LPGA Tour.
